Our Chapter is Published: Ocean Literacy in Formal Education
In March 2024, we responded to a call for chapters in what was envisioned as a book on ocean literacy. We seized the opportunity to contribute a chapter that reflects our work and expertise in developing the concept of Blue Schools across EU.
Our contribution, "Ocean Literacy in Formal Education: The Case of the Network of European Blue Schools," provides an overview of how ocean literacy is being integrated into formal education at all levels through a grassroots approach facilitated by the European Commission and ocean literacy experts.
What began as a book has evolved into a significant three-volume work comprising 67 chapters and contributions from 250 authors. This expansion reflects both the depth of knowledge within the ocean literacy field and the pressing need to share and disseminate this expertise globally.
“Ocean Literacy: The Foundation for the Success of the Ocean Decade, Volume III. Accelerating Communication, Technology, and Global Initiatives” has now been published. It emphasizes Ocean Decade Challenge 10: Restoring society's relationship with the Ocean through strategic communication, public engagement, and inclusive education models.
Our chapter, "Ocean Literacy in Formal Education: The Case of the Network of European Blue Schools," is now available in the publication.

We are proud to contribute to this important collection and look forward to continuing our work in advancing ocean literacy through formal education.
